Preschool Program

The preschool program is for children 3-4 years of age.

A typical day with the Preschoolers

6:30 am – 9:15 am Arrival and Routines. Children arrive and are greeted by the staff. Breakfast is served. Morning routines are completed and children are given the opportunity to acclimate to the environment at their own pace. Teachers work with families to provide a supportive, consistent, environment that waits until the child is ready. Teachers review the plans for the day, conduct health and safety survey (refill bathroom supplies; remove any broken or torn materials), and prepare interest areas.
9:15 am – 9:30 am Large Group Time. Children participate in activities lead by teachers with their class. Some of these activities include: music and movement, large motor games, listening and following direction games.
9:30 am – 9:50 am Small Group Time. Children are separated into developmentally-appropriate groups so individualized curriculum can be practiced and assessed. At the end of small group time, children make their “plan” for choice time.
9:50 am – 10:50 pm Inside Choice Time. Interest centers are open for children’s participation. These include: language, fine motor, science and math, sensory, writing, gross motor, art and dramatic play. At the end of choice time, children will gather again in their small group to review their plan.
10:50 pm – 11:50 pm Outside Choice Time. Children participate in outdoor playtime. Teachers engage in play with the children while supervising activities. Time may vary based on the weather.
11:50 pm – 12:30 pm Lunch Time/Transition to Rest.  Preschoolers are provided with the school lunch items unless specific requests or allergies restrict their diet. Teachers sit down with the children to create a “family style” atmosphere.
12:30 pm – 3:15 pm Rest Time. Preschoolers have their nap/rest time during this period. Teachers will pat/rub backs so children can rest comfortably and successfully. Some children who wake early from rest or who do not nap participate in quiet table choices and small group activities. Children are served snack upon waking for their naps on a rotating basis.
3:15 pm – 4:15 pm Outside Choice Time. Children participate in outdoor play time. Teachers engage in play with the children while supervising activities. Time may vary based on the weather.
4:15 pm – 4:45 pm Large Group Time. Children participate in activities lead by teachers with their class. Some of these activities include: music and movement, large motor games, listening and following direction games.
4:45 am – 5:00 am Small Group Time. Children are separated into developmentally-appropriate groups so individualized curriculum can be practiced and assessed. At the end of small group time, children make their “plan” for choice time.
5:00 pm – 6:00 pm Inside Choice Time. Interest centers are open for children’s participation. These include: language, fine motor, science and math, sensory, writing, gross motor, art and dramatic play. At the end of choice time, children will gather again in their small group to review their plan.
